Lineage, Stewardship and Ethical Use of Visual Medicine™
What is Visual Medicine™?
Visual Medicine™ is a living creative practice and relational field originated by Suzette Clough over more than two decades of direct work with painting, psychotherapy, somatic intelligence, and spiritual enquiry.
Visual Medicine™ is not simply a technique for making images. It is a portal to a living field of creative intelligence - a space where the unseen energies of the universe meet human consciousness through the flow of paint, water, attention, and relational presence.
It is a radical, accessible practice for restoring the sacred, co-creative act of seeing, sensing, and responding to the living world within and beyond us.
Lineage and Development
Visual Medicine™ arose organically through decades of artmaking and exploration, therapeutic practice, somatic attunement, psychological rigour, and relational stewardship.
It draws from:
The lived experience of more than 50 years of painting as a spirit-led practice.
Training in body psychotherapy at the Chiron Centre.
Long experience working with creativity, trauma, hospice work, addiction and deep psychological transformation processes.
The interwoven insights of ecology, deep ecology, quantum science, poetry, alchemy, animism, the study of Li, biology, Depth Psychology, pattern languages, and relational psychotherapy, cosmology, the Akasha - to name a few of the interconnected threads.
An intuitive, ongoing relationship with the Pattern Creation Ancestors - the unseen creative intelligences that guide the emergence of form.
Visual Medicine™ is an original field, not derived or assimilated from any other visual, therapeutic, or spiritual practice. It stands on its own foundation, while resonating with the deeper movements of creative intelligence, indigenous relational worldviews, and spiritual artistry across time.
Stewardship and Integrity
Visual Medicine™ is originated and actively stewarded by Suzette Clough thereby maintaining the integrity, relational depth, and living transmission of the practice.
The deceptively simple nature of Visual Medicine™ can sometimes lead people to believe they understand it fully after a brief encounter. It can lead to wanting to possess it as “yours”, however, the practice holds profound layers of relational intelligence that require careful tending, long-term creative practice, and embodied understanding.
To protect the living field, Visual Medicine™ may only be taught or facilitated publicly by those who have completed the official Facilitator Training pathway and have been certified to carry the work forward.

Facilitation and Teaching:
To ensure the depth, integrity, and living relational field of the work is honoured and protected - facilitating Visual Medicine™ sessions, workshops, or integrating Visual Medicine™ methods into professional offerings (workshops, therapy, coaching, leadership work) requires certification through the Visual Medicine™ Facilitator Training.
Visual Medicine™ is not to be copied, renamed, altered, or absorbed into other modalities without clear attribution and permission.
A Living Field of knowing and knowledge
When you have ongoing experience you quite quickly realise that Visual Medicine™ is more than a method. It is a living field - an ongoing conversation with the Creative Mind of the universe, ancestors, nature, and the hidden parts of us often relegated to the Shadow.
Everyone who works with the field becomes part of its unfolding evolving. By honouring its lineage, depth, and integrity, you help ensure that Visual Medicine™ continues to grow as a relational living practice - not just another extractive tool.
We are not simply making paintings. We are weaving a new (and ancient) way of being in relationship with creation itself.
If you have questions about stewardship, ethical use, or Facilitator training, please contact Suzette Clough.
